There are mainly three by-products during the production of Fiji Rice, “The rice husk ( also called rice hull) “ is the hard coating on the grain of rice. It is formed to protect the grain during the growing season. It can be used as fertilizer, insulation material or as fuel. Another by-product produced during the milling process is “Broken Rice”. Broken rice is fragments of rice gain which are broken during drying, transportation or milling. Broken rice is safe for human consumption, however, the industrial uses of Broken Rice are mainly in livestock feeding, aquaculture and production of starch and use in cosmetics and textile manufacturing Finally “Pollard”, Pollard is the by-product produced during rice milling and is mainly used for adult livestock feeding.
